Wednesday 5th March At 6:30pm | From Hubble to Webb – Revealing the Cosmos a talk by Kevin Nolan Kevin Nolan is a lecturer in Physics at Technological University Dublin at Tallaght Campus and is an expert on Mars and author of the popular science book “Mars, a Cosmic Stepping Stone” Hubble pioneered the search for some of the faintest and youngest galaxies ever detected. Webb’s infrared view bolsters this deep look by going even farther into the early universe. Sat, 8th March, At 2.30pm | An Introduction to Astronomical Sketching Darren Devereux is a lecturer at Dun Laoghaire College for Art and Design who does beautiful sketches of Galaxies and Nebulae from his back garden observatory in Dundrum. This artistic and scientific practice is often used by amateur astronomers and professionals to document astronomical observations, providing a personal and detailed representation of what is visible through a telescope or even with the naked eye. Magic and ideas are combined to spark interaction, and excitement. The show is part of STEAM as it helps children develop their critical thinking skills by demonstrating that imagination is a problem solving tool. 1pm + 2pm | Anyone4Science Astronaut’s Dinner Workshop In this workshop the children learn about the space programme, the history of the international space station and about life on it. Food suitable for taking to space was very different to that eaten by most families at the time of the first space missions. The children all make a dinner suitable for astronauts including soup, fish, veg and potatoes and a tasty dessert. Suitable for ages 8-10 | Book 1pm Book 2pm |
